Punjab vigilance nabs retired patwari in guava compensation scam

The accused was nabbed from Muktsar Sahib, marking the 18th arrest in the case. In the scam, compensation worth crores was wrongfully claimed in lieu of land acquired by GMADA in Bakarpur village, SAS Nagar.

Amid heavy rains, 23 trains, including Kalka Shatabdi, cancelled

On Monday too, as many as 30 trains were suspended along the Ambala-Chandigarh-Kalka rail track. These included the New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi (12005) and Amb Andaura-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express (22448). The New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi (12011) was short-terminated at Ambala Cantt railway station and New Delhi-Amb Andaura Vande Bharat (22447) at Chandigarh in the morning.

Jammu- Srinagar NH closed; Amarnath Yatra remains suspended

The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir has been suspended for the third consecutive day due to heavy rains causing damage to the highway. Restoration works are underway to clear the affected stretches of the highway. Over 90,000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the shrine so far.

New Haryana DGP: Nine IPS officers to figure in state’s list to UPSC

The Haryana government has sent a proposal containing the names of nine IPS officers to the UPSC to select the next DGP, but the proposal does not align with the Supreme Court's directives. The government has omitted the name of Manoj Yadava, the senior most IPS officer, despite his willingness to lead the force. The SC ruling and the MHA's undertaking state that the DGP should be selected from amongst the three senior-most officers empanelled by the UPSC, without requiring their consent. The proposal will be sent to the UPSC, which will shortlist three officers for the state government to choose from.

Rajpura thermal plant unit flooded, shut down in Punjab

Incessant rain and heavy water flow from the Sutlej and Ghaggar rivers have led to flooding in low-lying areas of Rupnagar and Patiala in Punjab, causing damage to property and infrastructure. The Indian Army and NDRF have been called in for rescue operations. The defunct portion of the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal is also causing heavy spillage in Rajpura area. Several villages have been flooded, leading to crop loss for farmers. Rivulets, including Ghaggar and Badi Nadi, are flowing above danger mark, raising concerns of further flooding.
